STATEHOUSE SNIPPETS
GAS DRILLING: The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee voted 16-9 for a bill that
would place a five-year moratorium on natural gas exploration on state-owned forest land. During and
after the moratorium, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources would monitor and assess
the impact of leases already granted for gas drilling. The assessment would include the impact of drilling
on water, air and soil quality, forest habitat and recreational pursuits. The bill now goes to the full House.
